April is Autism Awareness Month: Here’s What You Should Know

Spread the love

Every April, the world comes together to celebrate Autism Awareness Month, but more importantly, it’s a time to promote acceptance, inclusion, and understanding for those on the autism spectrum.

Autism, or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a developmental condition that affects how people communicate, learn, and experience the world around them. No two people with autism are the same—it’s a spectrum, which means everyone has a unique journey, strengths, and needs.

A Quick Look at Autism:
1 in 36 children in the U.S. are diagnosed with autism

It appears across all races, ethnicities, and economic backgrounds

Autism is not an illness—it’s a different way of thinking, feeling, and interacting

Many people with autism have incredible gifts in areas like memory, music, math, art, or creativity

But too often, they’re misunderstood. That’s why spreading awareness isn’t enough—we need compassionate conversations and inclusive communities that honor and support autistic individuals in every part of life.
